Privacy & your data

Plain-language summary of how Certa handles your information. (Template — to be finalized with counsel before launch.)

What we collect
Your name, email, and the details you provide (e.g., state and a court case reference if you are completing a court-ordered class); your enrollments, schedule, progress, and completion records; and DERIVED verification flags (e.g., “identity confirmed,” “attentive”). We do NOT collect or store biometric identifiers — no facial geometry, voiceprints, or webcam images are retained.
Why we use it
To deliver your training, verify that the right person completed it, issue your certificate, and — where you are enrolled through a court, probation department, or employer — to report your completion to that authority.
Who we share it with
The court/probation department or employer associated with your enrollment, and service providers who process data on our behalf under contract. We do not sell your personal information.
Your rights
You can request a copy of your data (export), or request deletion, from your dashboard. Some completion/audit records may be retained where required by a court or regulation; we delete or anonymize the rest per our retention policy.
Identity & engagement verification
Verification runs on your device and returns only pass/fail flags. No biometric template is created, transmitted, or stored. You may use a no-camera accommodation. (Designed to align with Texas CUBI, Illinois BIPA, and Washington’s consumer-health-data law.)
Minors
For participants under 18 (e.g., some MIP cases), a parent or guardian’s consent is obtained and data is minimized accordingly.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is role-restricted, and every session is recorded in a tamper-evident audit log.
